seattle
@ the SAM
lovely glass vase. i love the randomness in the colors and also its organic form
i want these windows for my house!
i think seattle architecture is trying to prove something...
my first macaron experience. i love how light this cookie is, although it is extremely sweet. th etexture is very interesting
she seems as equally excited about string beans as i am!

Sightings
Design History reference anyone?
The first image is the lithographic advertisement poster for the Moulin Rouge designed by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and the second is a wall image from the Flying Elephants Delicatessen at PDX. I love the use of the large E and also how there is an elephant. How adorable! The Flying Elephants is a really cute deli shop selling imported goods and they make amazing food, fyi. All the walls are Art Nouveau themed paintings. Its such a cute store!
-For Doremy- I though you'd love this!
Bacon.Maple.Bar.
This was my first experience going to the infamous Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, OR. I didn't expect it to be so crazy, but the line was out the door and we waited about 20 minutes. Firstly, I don't eat donuts. Secondly, anyone who knows me would had thought that I was out of my mind because Kim Liu wouldn't wait 20 minutes for a donut. For cheese maybe, but not for a donut. Sorry for the disappointment. So its located on 3rd and Burnside, right next to Saturday market and down the street from Waterfront.
A sampling of their donut oddities
They had a donut menu too!
And here at last! This is what I came for. The Bacon Maple Donut. Bizzare combo? Not at all. Think pancakes with maple syrup and sausage. To my amazement, the donut was really good! The maple bar was super fluffy and the bacon was just crispy enough, creating a good balance of the sweet and savory. This quirky place is a definite spot to visit if you're ever in town.

a trip down memory lane
at the asian grocers. please ignore the lays and cheetos.
they were once popular a few years ago, but you mind as well buy them fresh and roast them yourselves because these are often dry
as the name says, be prepared to chew!
this is my family's current fave. it is a bar like mixture wrapped with edible rice paper. i love it when they add rice paper!
fancy french cookies with chinese writing on them made in taiwan. very french, oui? :)
i could snack on these 24/7. 365 days a year
chinese new year candy
melon seeds. these can actually be really addicting...there is great technique to mastering how to open these, and once you get going you really have no control of when to stop. good luck.
there is something about these peanuts that make them amazing! my dad's favorite
ok. so don't judge the package. these are dried and preserved plums. they're sweet, sour, and tangy. and they're also crunchy/crisp/ mouth puckering. you have to give these a try.
these are good! tamarind flavored candies
there is so much more flavor than the packaging shows
giant. haha.
dark chocolate pocky
i used to have these when i was little!
epitome of the asian chip.
sesame seed snack
dried jackfruit. if you try nothing on this list, at least try these! they're super crunchy and sweet and taste just like fresh jackfruit. if only i could always have these.
my brother loves these. some of these are cuttlefish and others are squid.
